Goodbye summer, Hello fall!

Autumn is here! Happy sweater weather everyone!

I suppose this is a good time to share a fun fall pumpkin craft I’ve made for you! I call it..

The Witch’s Magic Pumpkin!

So gather round my wicked witches (and magical wizards can do this one too!) There are magic pumpkins to be made!

Here’s the supply list!

(I found all my supplies at JoAnn’s and don’t forget your coupons, there are endless ways to save!)

  • A funkin pumpkin.. It will last + a craft you can keep!
  • Black paint
  • Paint brush
  • Glitter
  • Sequins
  • Black lace fabric
  • Sewing pins with black heads
  • Mod podge
  • Siccors
  • Green craft felt
  • Black pipe cleaner
  • Newspaper/plastic bag to keep your surface clean

I painted my funkin pumpkin with black paint. While I was waiting for the paint to dry I cut out some of the flower patterns from the lace.

Once I figured out where I wanted to put my lace cutouts I used mod podge to glue them in place.

After the mod podge dried I pinned the silver sequins in place using the pins with black heads.

What’s a craft without a little glitter right? That’s my theory anyways lol

I used a paint brush to apply the mod podge randomly around the rest of my magic pumpkin and sprinkled on some pixie dust… I mean glitter 🙂

Make sure you have some newspaper/plastic bag to do your craft on because this one can get a little messy. But then again that’s what crafting is all about, it is half the fun! 🙂

For the finishing touches I added some leaves I cut from craft felt and curled a pipe cleaner around my finger for a curly stem/vine.

Use whatever colors and materials you want really, this is a pretty simple and a fun craft and there are a lot of ways to decorate it differently. Have fun and enjoy my gouls and goblins!

Bleeding Hearts, a mixed media collage by ashleymarydunlop

This piece is a little bit different from what I’ve been doing.. I took my mixed media in the direction of collaging.  My mixed media style has been incorporating a lot of vintage pieces and evolving them into my art. I came across some really lovely vintage post cards and included them on my collage.

Bleeding Hearts by ashleymarydunlop

As you can see I’ve incorporated a lot of techniques lol…I’m not sure if I may have used too many but, it’s interesting I suppose. Basically, one thing lead to another.

I’ll try to sum up what’s going on here..

I came up with this idea of collaging with postcards as a mixed media project

I had the vintage post cards and spruced up the carnations that were originally black and white with a little bit of color and I added some pink cheeks to the little girl.

I took some sketch paper and stained it with a tea bag. The paper being initially white was stained with the tea bag to give a aged look.

I had some really pretty music paper that I knew l wanted to layer onto the stained paper…but first I glued on my postcards onto the music paper.

I cut three heart shapes out of regular white computer paper and used them as stamp.

I covered the heart cutouts with modeling paste and pressed the hearts onto the paper. It took a a few times of covering the hearts with molding paste to get the desired look.

I let the modeling paste dry and then filled a small spray bottle with water and some paint, mixed it up and sprayed the watered down paint on the hearts over and over to get the runny look.

Once this dried I layered the music sheet paper onto the tea stained paper. I outlined the music sheet paper with charcoal and outlined the carnation postcard with charcoal.

I painted some lace trim I had with black paint and used it as a stamp under the carnation postcard.

Once the paint dried on the lace I sewed the lace onto the corner of my collage.

Lastly, I added the dried bleeding hearts to the vintage post card.

Exciting hellos and happenings!

Spring has sprung! It’s finally here! So from this point on the weather can only get warmer right?! I’m just going to keep telling myself this….even when it’s still chilly with the wind blowing like it’s been. The weather is suppose to reach 60 degrees by the end of the week so I guess I’ll take it. 🙂

Well a lot has been going on since my last post! But first I have a few things I would like to share with you! You know it’s these little things that kind of make me really excited…

I got a follow from Bev from Flamingo Toes on Pinterest! Bev has some of the cutest crafts ever! She is really quite good and everything she makes is something you think “Oh I want to make that!” or “Oh I want that!” Check out Bevs beautiful things on her website to see what she’s up to! http://www.flamingotoes.com

So if you guys haven’t already caught on to Farmhouse Rules on foodnetwork…. well you need to 🙂 I love watching Nancy cook. It’s a great cooking show with lots of yummy recipes. I love Nancy’s sayings like “fresh is best” and she’s right. I will even find myself saying her sayings as I’m cooking like “chop chop in the pot” I love listening to her talk and tell stories. She always has her family on her show. It’s really sweet. You can tell she puts a lot of love into everything she does. My mom grew up in upstate New York and I’m familiar with Hudson Valley so Nancy really hits close home for me. Nancy Fuller from Farmhouse Rules is always a pleasure to watch. I’m so glad she liked a picture on Instagram and even commented xxx

So in the middle of all the busyness an unexpected guest… the stomach bug decided to pay the Silva and Bernstein households a visit. For whatever reason I was the only person who managed to not get sick…. I was pretty lucky for whatever reason why…. I did try to spend some time trying to hide and destract myself from it by reading the lovely April 2015 issue of Country Living Magazine. Country Living Magazine may have been my lucky charm!

http://www.countryliving.com

Book stores are very nice places. I often end up spending more time in them then I should. I become very distracted, jumping from one thing to another. As I typically do.. I check out the hobby and crafts sections and….

when, what to my wondering eyes should appear

Craft It Now in a real bookstore. BAM bookstore.

 It felt like Christmas.

I also just wanted to quickly update you on my etsy shop I’ve been taking some time away… I’m absorbing new creative inspirations and nurturing my creative process. I’m not sure where this takes me but, I’ve come up with this piece. I hope you enjoy it and I hope to cultivate more new and fun pieces

What Goes Down Must Come Up

Yes, I know I have Isaac Newton’s law of gravity a bit backwards 🙂 keep in mind though I’m not talking about gravity.

Well I dunno about you but, I’m so ready for spring. Maybe I don’t say it enough but every year I get my early spring itch and I’ll telling ya with this crazy weather I’m ready to say bye bye winter and hello spring! I think there are many of us who feel the same?

I have an appreciation for every season. Each one has it’s own beauty but I have to be honest with you seeing the greenery, plants & flowers blooming and birds chirping plus, not having to leave the house with a million layers on… I’m really so ready. The countdown for spring is on. The first day of spring is on March 20th.

Life is like the changing seasons it never really stays the same. In life we endure highs and lows and we also grow and learn from these experiences. Life is but a grand adventure and we are all trying to find our way.

As of now I’m saying goodbye to apartment life and shifting my attention to other endeavors.

The current theme is kitchen renovation! I can hear all the demo work going on below me as I’m writing to you now. My boyfriend and his family are redoing their kitchen and I’ve been taking little snapshots and pitching in here and there when needed. I can show you the progress they make as each day goes by and everyday is a little different from the last. Watching the transformation and seeing the before and after is all part of the fun.

IMG_5498

I spent one of the days with Jenney packing up the kitchen items into boxes to prepare for the reno. The first day of kitchen renovation was clearing out the kitchen! Out goes the cabinets, counter tops and the stove. So what goes down must come back up 🙂 and it will eventually. The kitchen is already starting to open up. I also wanted to make note that a majority of the items and materials being taken out are being reused! Joy to repurposing and recycling! ((happy dance))

IMG_5497

Now maybe this thought has run across your mind. What the heck do you without a kitchen. Well, it’s called you make do… And a little innovation never hurts either. It’s called the temporary kitchen & coffee breakfast nook station. Now try and say that ten times fast 🙂

So here’s kind of a funny story. For Christmas my dad got me a Nuwave hot plate. I recall opening up my Christmas gift and thinking hmm..when would I be able to use this… Maybe, on a camping trip that would come in pretty handy. What thought did my dad have in mind?? Little did I understand the majestic beauty of what this Nuwave hot plate entailed. The Nuwave has a lot of great features, it’s so easy to use and let me just say this to you.. boiling water will never be the same. Literally, it’s done in the blink of an eye. The moral of this story is you never know when you’ll need a hot plate. I understand. It was a good idea. Thanks dad xxx

The Nuwave and Keurig can be seen on the temporary kitchen & coffee breakfast nook. For meals we have been keeping it simple. Easy to make meals that don’t require a large clean up. Sandwiches, pastas, boiled eggs and salads have been working well. We also have my boyfriends sister who lives next door so, I’m sure she’ll be expecting some visitors 🙂

Here are the links to Nuwave and Keurig to find out more about these products and how they can make a nice addition to your kitchen!

A Vermont Winter Wonderland

The holiday season is always a very busy time of year! I can’t believe Christmas is practically here! Can you tell I’ve watched the Grinch?! One of my favorites! Can’t go wrong with a little Dr. Seuss 🙂

Before I jump into holiday stuff I need to explain how wild the weather has been in the good old state of Vermont! Indeed, we get snow and are use to it but last week was crazy! With all the snow we got we lost power for almost four days! I resorted to resourceful ways and buried my groceries in the snow! I guess this was the positive side with how cold it was and all the snow on the ground. Mother Nature saved my groceries! Lol

I’ve been busy in my shop! I’ve added a few items!

I also participated in a swap on Instagram called #swapsgiving around Thanksgiving time! We all swapped embroidered hoops with our partners! It was very fun and will deff do it again! I’m in another swap but haven’t started too much on it just yet. Once I get going on it I’ll share more but I’m waiting for Christmas to pass before I start working on it! 🙂

I can’t believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve and then Christmas! We certainly moved right through 2014! I was busy yesterday getting all the last Christmas finishing touches completed. I finished my homemade gifts and got all the Christmas cookies made! A lot of work goes into these holidays and I love doing all the holidays things like shopping, decorating and everything else that goes along with it but, I can’t wait to finally be able to enjoy it all and relax with my family. Another year is coming to an end and it still boggles my mind with how quickly it goes by.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone! I’ll see you in 2015!!

Book Themed Sprinkle Preparations

So I made a few different assortments of crafts for the sprinkle as you can see!

Here you see a Cat In The Hat bunting that went along with the book theme. I hung this on the front of the table. I made a custom Where The Wild Things Are bunting with Elijah’s name on it so my cousin could take it home and hang it in Elijah’s room. I may have to consider making one of these for Liz because she loves this book too.

I will also be posting a custom order bunting listing on my Etsy shop in case others want to order a bunting as well!

20140828-103423-38063075.jpgSo what’s a party without some cute little caterpillars?! I made some crafty caterpillars out of little pompom balls and pipe cleaners. You can easily find these supplies at JoAnn’s and Walmart. I made these guys to go along with the Very Hungry Caterpillar book and paired them with some fruit salad. What’s even funnier about these caterpillars is how much Noah and Anna loved these guys! So if your ever in doubt on fun party decorations.. Think caterpillars! Lol they requested to take the caterpillar family home with them.

20140828-103424-38064954.jpg   20140828-103426-38066334.jpg     20140828-112356-41036252.jpg  The flowers Sara and I decided on were sunflowers and baby’s breath in mason jars with little star inserts 🙂 20140828-103536-38136728.jpg   20140828-103533-38133785.jpg  The party favors also went along with the book theme. Each guest had a school name tag with a small composition note book, pencil and a bookmark I made. We played a game where we had to guess the name of the book based on a few sentences from a children’s story. 20140828-103535-38135231.jpg   20140828-103638-38198279.jpg      Can’t forget the bookworms! 20140828-103644-38204576.jpg     20140828-104505-38705185.jpg    So I wanted to do something a little bit different for Elijah… With that said it got me thinking of bedtime routines and made me think of mine… For a while there I was on a kick and really enjoyed Jiminy Cricket’s When You Wish Upon a Star lol and would ask my dad to sing it to me and that’s kinda how I came up with the idea of making a wish on a star for Elijah. Now when Elijah is older he can look back and read all the lovely wishes everyone made for him. Particularly, the wish for cake! Haha

Cheesy I know but I love it 🙂

A New Adventure

Well I’m not sure where to begin, I had to look back on where I left off. I’ve been extremely busy, so much is going on. I’m just trying to stay optimistic that i am going to get threw it all!

Let me show you some of my projects I’ve been working on and completed!

I finished another patchwork quilt that I had been working on. I had mentioned in my previous post that I was making a quilt for a scholarship fundraiser. The turnout was really great. My quilt went to the highest bidder and I couldn’t be happier with the home it went to. This person holds a special place in my heart. I was honored to be able to do this.

ImageImageImage

I’ve whipped up a picture and memo board made with some chicken coop wire! I thought this was so cute because as you know by now I love vintage/antique looking things 🙂 and this does just that! And how cute are the mini cloths pins, just the trick for pictures. I didn’t have a whole ton of time to dig up old pictures for my board… I found an old homecoming picture from high school, I think this was 9th grade lol and the other is of my sister and I when we were itty bitty 🙂 my dad made the swing for us

ImageImage

I’ve came up with a textile design that I’ve called “the enchanted garden” I put this on a cardigan and I’ve had many people message me about how much they really liked the design. I’ve had a few custom order requests from people asking me if I would put the design on their cloths. I just thought that was so neat.

ImageImage

Image

I’m also working on making some prairie curtains and pillow cases. Once I have those completed I will be sure to share a picture.

I’ve also have some shops selling my cabochon earrings!

So it’s been a really busy past couple of weeks for me and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to slow down. And I’m really pumped. It’s taken so much and I’ve had people literally tell me well you can’t do it all. Well let me tell you I certainly can, I am doing it and been doing it. I have been coming to find and learn that life goes more smoothly when you don’t have things weighing you down. Of course some things in life we have no say in but you just shouldn’t do it to yourself if there is a choice. Don’t weigh yourself down.

I also have some other exciting things that are still up in the air but if it all works out they maybe some really great opportunities, so keep your fingers crossed for me

Vintage sheet patchwork quilt

20140422-085935.jpg

Well the spring weather has finally sprung it’s way back into Vermont. I can’t tell you how much I’ve been craving this wonderful weather! There’s nothing better then seeing nature coming back to life and not to mention all of the lovely things that come along with the spring season. I am reluctant to say that the mud on our dirt road hasn’t been too awful neither of our vehicles have gotten stuck! (Hopefully, I’m not speaking too soon) Keeping my fingers crossed.

So far I’ve been busy working on a few projects but there are always more to be done. One project in particular I’m happy to say I’ve completed is making my first vintage sheet patchwork quilt. I started making this just before spring came because I couldn’t take not having some color in my life. I say the more the marrier! Don’t get me wrong the winter has it’s good parts but my spring fever happened to itch so early for some reason. I like to think that my quilt was just encouraging the spring to get here a little faster 🙂 I also had to get some little mini roses to celebrate spring, how I love them!

I now offer crib size patchwork quilts in my shop as a custom order item. Which I find to be kinda nice because you can basically have whatever type of fabric you want or have it go along with a theme or match colors.

And I actually just ordered some fabric for a very special quilt that I will be working on and that’s really all I can say on this.

Decorative pillows are available to order at Heart2HomeCreations. I’ve made some really pretty pillow covers with decorative trim! They would make a great gift for Mother’s Day!

Enjoy your day and thanks for stopping by!
