Goodbye summer, Hello fall!

Autumn is here! Happy sweater weather everyone!

I suppose this is a good time to share a fun fall pumpkin craft I’ve made for you! I call it..

The Witch’s Magic Pumpkin!

So gather round my wicked witches (and magical wizards can do this one too!) There are magic pumpkins to be made!

Here’s the supply list!

(I found all my supplies at JoAnn’s and don’t forget your coupons, there are endless ways to save!)

  • A funkin pumpkin.. It will last + a craft you can keep!
  • Black paint
  • Paint brush
  • Glitter
  • Sequins
  • Black lace fabric
  • Sewing pins with black heads
  • Mod podge
  • Siccors
  • Green craft felt
  • Black pipe cleaner
  • Newspaper/plastic bag to keep your surface clean

I painted my funkin pumpkin with black paint. While I was waiting for the paint to dry I cut out some of the flower patterns from the lace.

Once I figured out where I wanted to put my lace cutouts I used mod podge to glue them in place.

After the mod podge dried I pinned the silver sequins in place using the pins with black heads.

What’s a craft without a little glitter right? That’s my theory anyways lol

I used a paint brush to apply the mod podge randomly around the rest of my magic pumpkin and sprinkled on some pixie dust… I mean glitter 🙂

Make sure you have some newspaper/plastic bag to do your craft on because this one can get a little messy. But then again that’s what crafting is all about, it is half the fun! 🙂

For the finishing touches I added some leaves I cut from craft felt and curled a pipe cleaner around my finger for a curly stem/vine.

Use whatever colors and materials you want really, this is a pretty simple and a fun craft and there are a lot of ways to decorate it differently. Have fun and enjoy my gouls and goblins!

Shine Towards The Sun

Last week was a pretty busy week I had a dermatologist appointment and had a Vi peel done and not mention I was slammed with allergies! Never suspected that’s what it was since I never had that trouble in the past. But never the less allergy season is upon us and it seems like allergies will be acting up this year is what’s been said! So have your tissues ready! :):) But at least I have plenty to write!

Oh and Happy Earth Day! 🙂

I should first begin with updating you on the kitchen remodel! It’s a brand new kitchen! These aren’t the most up to date pictures but I can’t just let it all out at once. Ohh the anticipation!

A lot has been done! We are all happy to say the new flooring has been put down. Which was tile! This tile gives a stone appearance with grey and a mix of other light colors. It defently captures stone accurately. This is the look that was wanted because the theme is “cottage”

When you think of cottage don’t your thoughts bring you back to reading those story books when you were a kid with old cottages? and there you have it.

There is also a dark red AGA oven, black soapstone countertops, white cabinets, and tile back splashes.

After many tile samples and lots of thought a decision was made!
You wouldn’t believe all the different types of tiles, patterns, colors and shapes there are out there. It’s pretty amazing how similar tiles can look but until you bring home sample pieces to test them out they can look like something completely different.

Here are some tips when choosing to do a tile floor in your kitchen.

Don’t  jump the gun! Don’t make any quick decisions… And here’s why!

Take some time to figure out the space you are laying your tile out on. Does the pattern of the tile you want to use make sence for the layout and flow of your kitchen?

My boyfriend’s parents came up with a great pattern for the tile to follow throughout the room. The pattern incorporates large and smaller cuts of tile. Since the kitchen is a descent sized space the tile pattern fits the flow of the room nicely and also adds a nice funshway.

Bring home sample pieces and lay them out of the floor. Lighting can be a big game changer on how the tile looks in your kitchen. The lighting in your home and the changes of natural sunlight can affect how the tile is going to look.

Take into consideration how the tile is going to tie in the rest the room and work with the other colors in your kitchen.

Choosing the right tile for your kitchen can make a huge difference in the overall appearance and atmosphere.

Another important part of tile installation is using the right grout to hold the tile into place. Polyblend was the chosen grout.

There are a lot of benefits in choosing to use Polyblend grout vs. a cement grout.  Polyblend is durable, produces hard dense joints that resists shrinking, cracking and wear and tear. Polyblend is available in sanded and non-sanded depending on what type of material (and it’s use) you are installing. Polyblend comes is a variety of 48 colors to choose from! #buildgreen #emeraldsystem

The simple and best explanation in choosing to use Polyblend is it’s high proformance, works better and lasts longer. To find out more information please visit http://www.custombuildingproducts.com/

Me personally and I’m sure others may feel the same but, I’m a fan of natural sunlight.

Not only does the sun play a vital role in all living things everyday lives but it’s also great for energy sufficiency in lighting homes.

And not to mention what’s better then soaking up those warm rays of sunshine, why not encorperate this into your home?

Luckily, this house already has plenty of windows all throughout the house. By stepping it up a notch beautiful Andersen glass doors were installed. Adding more natural light and a true charm to the kitchen with the glass detail.  Please click here to find out more about Andersen windows and doors. Here’s how to find out how you can add Andersen to your home.

What Goes Down Must Come Up

Yes, I know I have Isaac Newton’s law of gravity a bit backwards 🙂 keep in mind though I’m not talking about gravity.

Well I dunno about you but, I’m so ready for spring. Maybe I don’t say it enough but every year I get my early spring itch and I’ll telling ya with this crazy weather I’m ready to say bye bye winter and hello spring! I think there are many of us who feel the same?

I have an appreciation for every season. Each one has it’s own beauty but I have to be honest with you seeing the greenery, plants & flowers blooming and birds chirping plus, not having to leave the house with a million layers on… I’m really so ready. The countdown for spring is on. The first day of spring is on March 20th.

Life is like the changing seasons it never really stays the same. In life we endure highs and lows and we also grow and learn from these experiences. Life is but a grand adventure and we are all trying to find our way.

As of now I’m saying goodbye to apartment life and shifting my attention to other endeavors.

The current theme is kitchen renovation! I can hear all the demo work going on below me as I’m writing to you now. My boyfriend and his family are redoing their kitchen and I’ve been taking little snapshots and pitching in here and there when needed. I can show you the progress they make as each day goes by and everyday is a little different from the last. Watching the transformation and seeing the before and after is all part of the fun.

IMG_5498

I spent one of the days with Jenney packing up the kitchen items into boxes to prepare for the reno. The first day of kitchen renovation was clearing out the kitchen! Out goes the cabinets, counter tops and the stove. So what goes down must come back up 🙂 and it will eventually. The kitchen is already starting to open up. I also wanted to make note that a majority of the items and materials being taken out are being reused! Joy to repurposing and recycling! ((happy dance))

Now maybe this thought has run across your mind. What the heck do you without a kitchen. Well, it’s called you make do… And a little innovation never hurts either. It’s called the temporary kitchen & coffee breakfast nook station. Now try and say that ten times fast 🙂

So here’s kind of a funny story. For Christmas my dad got me a Nuwave hot plate. I recall opening up my Christmas gift and thinking hmm..when would I be able to use this… Maybe, on a camping trip that would come in pretty handy. What thought did my dad have in mind?? Little did I understand the majestic beauty of what this Nuwave hot plate entailed. The Nuwave has a lot of great features, it’s so easy to use and let me just say this to you.. boiling water will never be the same. Literally, it’s done in the blink of an eye. The moral of this story is you never know when you’ll need a hot plate. I understand. It was a good idea. Thanks dad xxx

The Nuwave and Keurig can be seen on the temporary kitchen & coffee breakfast nook. For meals we have been keeping it simple. Easy to make meals that don’t require a large clean up. Sandwiches, pastas, boiled eggs and salads have been working well. We also have my boyfriends sister who lives next door so, I’m sure she’ll be expecting some visitors 🙂

Here are the links to Nuwave and Keurig to find out more about these products and how they can make a nice addition to your kitchen!

A Vermont Winter Wonderland

The holiday season is always a very busy time of year! I can’t believe Christmas is practically here! Can you tell I’ve watched the Grinch?! One of my favorites! Can’t go wrong with a little Dr. Seuss 🙂

Before I jump into holiday stuff I need to explain how wild the weather has been in the good old state of Vermont! Indeed, we get snow and are use to it but last week was crazy! With all the snow we got we lost power for almost four days! I resorted to resourceful ways and buried my groceries in the snow! I guess this was the positive side with how cold it was and all the snow on the ground. Mother Nature saved my groceries! Lol

I’ve been busy in my shop! I’ve added a few items!

I also participated in a swap on Instagram called #swapsgiving around Thanksgiving time! We all swapped embroidered hoops with our partners! It was very fun and will deff do it again! I’m in another swap but haven’t started too much on it just yet. Once I get going on it I’ll share more but I’m waiting for Christmas to pass before I start working on it! 🙂

I can’t believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve and then Christmas! We certainly moved right through 2014! I was busy yesterday getting all the last Christmas finishing touches completed. I finished my homemade gifts and got all the Christmas cookies made! A lot of work goes into these holidays and I love doing all the holidays things like shopping, decorating and everything else that goes along with it but, I can’t wait to finally be able to enjoy it all and relax with my family. Another year is coming to an end and it still boggles my mind with how quickly it goes by.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone! I’ll see you in 2015!!

Book Themed Sprinkle Preparations

So I made a few different assortments of crafts for the sprinkle as you can see!

Here you see a Cat In The Hat bunting that went along with the book theme. I hung this on the front of the table. I made a custom Where The Wild Things Are bunting with Elijah’s name on it so my cousin could take it home and hang it in Elijah’s room. I may have to consider making one of these for Liz because she loves this book too.

I will also be posting a custom order bunting listing on my Etsy shop in case others want to order a bunting as well!

20140828-103423-38063075.jpgSo what’s a party without some cute little caterpillars?! I made some crafty caterpillars out of little pompom balls and pipe cleaners. You can easily find these supplies at JoAnn’s and Walmart. I made these guys to go along with the Very Hungry Caterpillar book and paired them with some fruit salad. What’s even funnier about these caterpillars is how much Noah and Anna loved these guys! So if your ever in doubt on fun party decorations.. Think caterpillars! Lol they requested to take the caterpillar family home with them.

20140828-103424-38064954.jpg   20140828-103426-38066334.jpg     20140828-112356-41036252.jpg  The flowers Sara and I decided on were sunflowers and baby’s breath in mason jars with little star inserts 🙂 20140828-103536-38136728.jpg   20140828-103533-38133785.jpg  The party favors also went along with the book theme. Each guest had a school name tag with a small composition note book, pencil and a bookmark I made. We played a game where we had to guess the name of the book based on a few sentences from a children’s story. 20140828-103535-38135231.jpg   20140828-103638-38198279.jpg      Can’t forget the bookworms! 20140828-103644-38204576.jpg     20140828-104505-38705185.jpg    So I wanted to do something a little bit different for Elijah… With that said it got me thinking of bedtime routines and made me think of mine… For a while there I was on a kick and really enjoyed Jiminy Cricket’s When You Wish Upon a Star lol and would ask my dad to sing it to me and that’s kinda how I came up with the idea of making a wish on a star for Elijah. Now when Elijah is older he can look back and read all the lovely wishes everyone made for him. Particularly, the wish for cake! Haha

Cheesy I know but I love it 🙂

A New Adventure

Well I’m not sure where to begin, I had to look back on where I left off. I’ve been extremely busy, so much is going on. I’m just trying to stay optimistic that i am going to get threw it all!

Let me show you some of my projects I’ve been working on and completed!

I finished another patchwork quilt that I had been working on. I had mentioned in my previous post that I was making a quilt for a scholarship fundraiser. The turnout was really great. My quilt went to the highest bidder and I couldn’t be happier with the home it went to. This person holds a special place in my heart. I was honored to be able to do this.

ImageImageImage

I’ve whipped up a picture and memo board made with some chicken coop wire! I thought this was so cute because as you know by now I love vintage/antique looking things 🙂 and this does just that! And how cute are the mini cloths pins, just the trick for pictures. I didn’t have a whole ton of time to dig up old pictures for my board… I found an old homecoming picture from high school, I think this was 9th grade lol and the other is of my sister and I when we were itty bitty 🙂 my dad made the swing for us

ImageImage

I’ve came up with a textile design that I’ve called “the enchanted garden” I put this on a cardigan and I’ve had many people message me about how much they really liked the design. I’ve had a few custom order requests from people asking me if I would put the design on their cloths. I just thought that was so neat.

I’m also working on making some prairie curtains and pillow cases. Once I have those completed I will be sure to share a picture.

I’ve also have some shops selling my cabochon earrings!

So it’s been a really busy past couple of weeks for me and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to slow down. And I’m really pumped. It’s taken so much and I’ve had people literally tell me well you can’t do it all. Well let me tell you I certainly can, I am doing it and been doing it. I have been coming to find and learn that life goes more smoothly when you don’t have things weighing you down. Of course some things in life we have no say in but you just shouldn’t do it to yourself if there is a choice. Don’t weigh yourself down.

I also have some other exciting things that are still up in the air but if it all works out they maybe some really great opportunities, so keep your fingers crossed for me

A Happy Day!

Well, September has been off to a pretty busy start!

On September 7th my best friend from collage got married! It was a beautiful wedding and everyone had such a nice time. The wedding was held at The Quechee Club in Quechee, Vermont. A great location for a Vermont wedding.

Up until the wedding I had been working on a card-box for the gift table.

Finally finished Cassie’s Card-Box after a couple of late nights!

According to The Knot, (A great resource for Brides to use while planning a wedding! Very helpful!)

” Wedding card holders provide a beautiful and secure container for your guests to leave you their gifts. Generally placed near your wedding guest book or on the gift table, these money holders will serve as a visual reminder to help your guests remember to give you the generous gifts they have prepared in advance. After the party is over, your card box will be filled with gifts for you and yours to take home. Add your wedding colors with a band of  favor ribbonor maybe a few flower petals. ”

http://www.theknot.com/

Card-boxes have been appearing in more and more weddings and are becoming very popular. I can definitely see why! Card-boxes are a more modern version of a card holder. Card-boxes allow more creative freedom since they can be customized to what the bride likes and coordinate to the wedding. They are also a great way to make a gift table look more unique! It is a fun, affordable and a creative craft that a Bride would love!

My Card-Box on the gift table & with the Bride!

My recommandation for card-boxes is to coordinate it to the wedding and have fun with it! Ribbons, glitter, paper, fabric, bows, flowers! Enjoy! 🙂

Congratulations Cassie & Chris!

(Once I get pictures I would love to share them with you!)

Please feel free to leave comments about you’re weddings!

Bachelorette party favor craft!

Crafting with alcohol and mardi gras beads ??? Don’t worry it’s not as bad as it seems! Here is a fun, affordable and crafty party favor for a bachelorette party!

Supplies List:
– mardi gras beads ( I found mine at partycity $3.99 for a pack of 12 necklaces )

– nips! Get which ever type of alcohol you prefer I bought 8 Smirnoff nips

– ribbon

– hot glue gun

– scissors

I ended up making six two layered nip necklaces. Five of the nip necklaces have one nip on them. One nip necklace has three.

Steps/directions:

Step 1: I took two of the beaded necklaces and hot glued four pairs of beads together. I did this for a layered look and this also makes handling the necklaces a little easier.

Step 2: tightly wrap ribbon around the neck of the nip bottle and hot glue into place.

Step 3: leave enough extra ribbon to wrap over necklaces. I didn’t use an exact measurement I just eye balled it.

Step 4: loop ribbon around the necklaces and hot glue into place. ( I posted two different pictures of the loop)

Step 5:  make bows and add them to the front of the bottles, hot glue onto ribbon

Note: for the brides nip necklace I went a little over board with sparkly ribbons and put three nip bottles onto the necklace so it would stand out!

Be safe, have fun & enjoy you’re girls night out!
