Exciting hellos and happenings!

Spring has sprung! It’s finally here! So from this point on the weather can only get warmer right?! I’m just going to keep telling myself this….even when it’s still chilly with the wind blowing like it’s been. The weather is suppose to reach 60 degrees by the end of the week so I guess I’ll take it. 🙂

Well a lot has been going on since my last post! But first I have a few things I would like to share with you! You know it’s these little things that kind of make me really excited…

I got a follow from Bev from Flamingo Toes on Pinterest! Bev has some of the cutest crafts ever! She is really quite good and everything she makes is something you think “Oh I want to make that!” or “Oh I want that!” Check out Bevs beautiful things on her website to see what she’s up to! http://www.flamingotoes.com

So if you guys haven’t already caught on to Farmhouse Rules on foodnetwork…. well you need to 🙂 I love watching Nancy cook. It’s a great cooking show with lots of yummy recipes. I love Nancy’s sayings like “fresh is best” and she’s right. I will even find myself saying her sayings as I’m cooking like “chop chop in the pot” I love listening to her talk and tell stories. She always has her family on her show. It’s really sweet. You can tell she puts a lot of love into everything she does. My mom grew up in upstate New York and I’m familiar with Hudson Valley so Nancy really hits close home for me. Nancy Fuller from Farmhouse Rules is always a pleasure to watch. I’m so glad she liked a picture on Instagram and even commented xxx

So in the middle of all the busyness an unexpected guest… the stomach bug decided to pay the Silva and Bernstein households a visit. For whatever reason I was the only person who managed to not get sick…. I was pretty lucky for whatever reason why…. I did try to spend some time trying to hide and destract myself from it by reading the lovely April 2015 issue of Country Living Magazine. Country Living Magazine may have been my lucky charm!

Book stores are very nice places. I often end up spending more time in them then I should. I become very distracted, jumping from one thing to another. As I typically do.. I check out the hobby and crafts sections and….

when, what to my wondering eyes should appear

Craft It Now in a real bookstore. BAM bookstore.

 It felt like Christmas.

I also just wanted to quickly update you on my etsy shop I’ve been taking some time away… I’m absorbing new creative inspirations and nurturing my creative process. I’m not sure where this takes me but, I’ve come up with this piece. I hope you enjoy it and I hope to cultivate more new and fun pieces

Book Themed Sprinkle Preparations

So I made a few different assortments of crafts for the sprinkle as you can see!

Here you see a Cat In The Hat bunting that went along with the book theme. I hung this on the front of the table. I made a custom Where The Wild Things Are bunting with Elijah’s name on it so my cousin could take it home and hang it in Elijah’s room. I may have to consider making one of these for Liz because she loves this book too.

I will also be posting a custom order bunting listing on my Etsy shop in case others want to order a bunting as well!

20140828-103423-38063075.jpgSo what’s a party without some cute little caterpillars?! I made some crafty caterpillars out of little pompom balls and pipe cleaners. You can easily find these supplies at JoAnn’s and Walmart. I made these guys to go along with the Very Hungry Caterpillar book and paired them with some fruit salad. What’s even funnier about these caterpillars is how much Noah and Anna loved these guys! So if your ever in doubt on fun party decorations.. Think caterpillars! Lol they requested to take the caterpillar family home with them.

20140828-103424-38064954.jpg   20140828-103426-38066334.jpg     20140828-112356-41036252.jpg  The flowers Sara and I decided on were sunflowers and baby’s breath in mason jars with little star inserts 🙂 20140828-103536-38136728.jpg   20140828-103533-38133785.jpg  The party favors also went along with the book theme. Each guest had a school name tag with a small composition note book, pencil and a bookmark I made. We played a game where we had to guess the name of the book based on a few sentences from a children’s story. 20140828-103535-38135231.jpg   20140828-103638-38198279.jpg      Can’t forget the bookworms! 20140828-103644-38204576.jpg     20140828-104505-38705185.jpg    So I wanted to do something a little bit different for Elijah… With that said it got me thinking of bedtime routines and made me think of mine… For a while there I was on a kick and really enjoyed Jiminy Cricket’s When You Wish Upon a Star lol and would ask my dad to sing it to me and that’s kinda how I came up with the idea of making a wish on a star for Elijah. Now when Elijah is older he can look back and read all the lovely wishes everyone made for him. Particularly, the wish for cake! Haha

Cheesy I know but I love it 🙂

Custom Mr. + Mrs. Pillows

Part one of the bridal shower:

A very dear friend of mine just had her bridal shower! Congratulations Cassie! It was a wonderful shower. I love showers because you get to catch up with people you haven’t seen and celebrate!

For this bridal shower I wanted to make some type of personalized memento gift. Something for the bride and groom to remember their special day and something for the home. I decided to go with Mr. & Mrs. pillows.

For the Mr. pillow I used black and white polkadot ribbon as a border around the pillow with four black buttons one on each corner. I cut out letters from black fabric and embroidered each letter with black thread. For the finishing touch I gave the Mr. a bow-tie.

For the Mrs. pillow I knew I wanted lace, pearls and sparkly gems. I used the lace as a border around the pillow and stitched beads and pearls all throughout the border. This was the most time consuming part about the project but, totally worth it. It really added to the lace. Again I cut out letters from fabric and embroidered the letters with white thread and four white buttons on each corner. For the finishing touch on this pillow I gave the Mrs. a vail made from tule and more pearl beads.

I had a lot of fun making these pillows I loved getting the materials I wanted to work with. I also wanted to include materials the bride liked as well. Cassie likes lace so I knew I wanted to have this material on the pillow. My personalized Mr. & Mrs. pillows are great because I can customize the pillows almost any way.

Here is a picture of some of the materials.

Something old, something new, something… Crafty ?!?!

Part two of the bridal shower:

As Cassie was opening her gifts I was given the responsibility of making the ribbon bouquet..turned into hat haha. Here are some pictures of how it came out.

Here is a picture of the bridal party! Such a fun day!

More gift wrapping tips!

Gift wrapping… A sore subject for some but, don’t worry you are not the only one! I myself am trying to work on my gift wrapping skills.

When in doubt.. gift bags are marvelous things. Easy, convenient for travel and can actually be cheaper then wrapping paper. I am constantly finding every time I buy wrapping paper it’s expensive and I never have enough for what I am wrapping.

Where did I go for my wrapping supplies you might ask? Yup, you guessed it the dollar store or in my case the dollar general! I spent $10 on gift wrapping supplies. I left with a two pack roll of tape, 3 gift bags (large and small sizes) tissue paper, one roll of gift wrap, ribbons and a card. Whenever I buy gift wrap from the dollar store/dollar general I always feel like I got the most bang for my buck. And there is usually a pretty good selection to choose from!

New Chapters & Beginnings

knew ahead of time July was going to be a busy month but man has it been crazy! Regardless of staying organized life just has its way of sneaking up on you (whether you planned for it or not) I can’t believe it’s almost over! The fall weather is in the air and its approaching.

My Dad sold his house and the past few days my sister and I where going through old pictures and belongings. Brought back so many memories. I grew up in my house my entire life I just turned 24 on the 24th. I know I’m still young but time does fly. I have to say it was a great experience growing up on Cranberry Rd. Having the most supportive parents who never got sick of listening to the Annie soundtrack, would let me turn our living room into a stage for plays and magic shows lol. And forcing my little sister to be my co-star and play barbies with me even if she didn’t want to. (Sorry Liz lol) and having my best friend live right down the street from me, lots of walks after school and finding my highschool sweetheart…It doesn’t get any better than that.

Well I’ll stop at that for now. I will have another blog post coming soon.. Crafts and a bridal shower, how fun! Can’t wait to share them with you!

Dandelion Day

A couple of weeks ago I was able to get the photographs taken of my apron, tea towel and a couple of scarves. It ended up being a pretty successful day! I’m still working on adding a few more listings to the Etsy shop but I’ll get there. For my apron I used three different floral prints. I really love mixing different designs of the same prints together. Kind of my thing at the moment. For me I find having some similarity in how the design of the print looks and going off of a color scheme worked best in creating this piece. My apron has the concept of mismatch but has some sense to it. If you going for complete mismatch toss my concept out the window!  Haha well that’s it for my little spiel 🙂  Here are some pictures from the day!

Care for a spot of tea?

Well it’s been one rainy day to say the least! But that’s okay I was able to get my tea towel done so I guess that’s one thing accomplished! My tea towel measures 14 X 20 with a beautiful 60s vintage feel to it. The tea towel has a grey polkadot decorative edge. The back of the tea towel is also grey polkadots. The fabric I used for the front of my tea towel (Cream and Sugar by Ampersand Design Studio) I purchased from a great fabric supply shop called SpiceBerryCottage. They offer a great fabric selection and you are sure to find something that catches your eye!

Buttons, Buttons & Buttons!

Buttons, buttons and more buttons! Swapping out old buttons is a great way to revamp cloths you already have without digging too deep into your pocketbook! I switched the buttons on a plaid coat to give it a new look 🙂 I really loved this lightweight jacket the red and black plaid is just so classic but the plastic skull buttons it had gave a much harsher look then what I wanted. Being able to see the potential in this great find I knew with a little TLC it would be totally different. Adding buttons is really easy and takes little to no sewing skills! Give it a try!

That’s A Wrap

This past Sunday I attended a baby shower of a very good friend of mine! She is having a girl 🙂 It was so good to catch up with friends and the baby shower was just beautiful.

Here’s some help with giving a great baby shower gift and some fun tips for wrapping your present!

Hmmm….. Not sure what to give?…..

– Its good to always check the baby registry! The mommy to be more than likely already knows what she has in mind.

Here’s where you can have some fun with your gifts, get something off the registry and a gift that you picked out yourself. This is a nice way to incorporate something mommy to be asked for and show you took time to pick something out for her and baby.

– If your still out of ideas ask those closest to her such as, family members and friends!

– Also if a baby shower is being held offer a helping hand! A wonderful baby shower is something a mommy to be will never forget!

My gift wrapping tips for a baby shower gift!

– If there are any crates, baskets or tote boxes for toys on the registry buy these first! You can put whatever else you buy in the crates!

– Get fun wrapping paper, tissue paper, ribbons and bows! I personally recommend checking out dollar stores. You can find the best gift supplies and its affordable!!!

– Clear gift wrap is a total must if you use any type of crate, basket or tote box. Clear gift wrap has two purposes. One protects the actual basket from scuffing up and getting dirty and two keeps all your gifts in one place! This is helpful so your not scrambling around because you didn’t know where you put something…..that is if your like me 😉

Here is what I did! Hope this is helpful! Leave me comments on what worked for you and share some ideas ❤

Come again!
